If you’re searching for a cozy, design-forward, and truly dog-friendly retreat in the New England or New York areas, our recent stay at Prospect Berkshires in Western Massachusetts absolutely exceeded every expectation. This lakeside resort features 40+ beautifully crafted cabins—each one warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully made with both humans and dogs in mind. From the moment we stepped inside our cabin, we were blown away by the craftsmanship: heated floors (a huge hit with our pups after walking in from the crisp fall air), perfect woodwork, and stunning floor-to-ceiling windows that brought the outdoors right into our space. The dogs immediately made themselves at home, especially on the cozy window bench nook where they spent hours watching leaves fall and hours of nature pass by. And the sweetest touch? Local dog treats, water bowls, food bowls, and a plush dog bed waiting for them upon arrival.
What we loved most about Prospect Berkshires was how naturally it blends adventure with relaxation. There are several short, scenic trails right on the property—ideal for a peaceful morning walk with the dogs and a coffee or tea — and everywhere you turn is picture-perfect. While the pups napped in their favorite window spot, we took full advantage of the heated saltwater pool and the incredible sauna experiences. The resort has numerous saunas, including two perched right on the lake that you can reserve privately for an incredible lakeside experience. Sitting in a warm, cedar-scented sauna while looking out over the water felt like the definition of a fall getaway.
Whether you're coming from Boston, New York City, or anywhere in between, we can’t recommend Prospect Berkshires enough for your next dog-friendly escape. Even if you don’t have dogs, this is an unforgettable place to unwind, explore, and reconnect with nature—but for dog parents, it’s a little slice of heaven. We stayed for a quiet long weekend and are already counting down the days until we can go back.
