If you're looking for a magical, dog-friendly escape in nature, our recent trip to a stunning lakeside treehouse in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts was everything we could’ve hoped for—and more! Just steps from the front door is a private swimming dock, perfect for a morning paddle or an afternoon splash session with your pup. The property is incredibly dog-friendly, allowing well-behaved dogs to be off-leash the entire time. There’s plenty of open grassy space to run, sniff, and play, plus the refreshing, clear lake is always ready for a swim. Our dogs were in absolute heaven from the moment we arrived!
The treehouse itself is like something out of a rainforest dream—elevated among the trees with a clear ceiling that lets in soft natural light by day and moonlight by night. With screened walls on all four sides, you get a fully immersive nature experience without worrying about bugs or critters. One of our favorite parts of the stay was the sandy bonfire pit area, where we watched the sunset while roasting dinner over the grill grate. Whether you're seeking peace and quiet, adventure with your pup, or just a unique place to unwind, this hidden gem in the Berkshires is the perfect retreat for dog lovers.
Something worth noting: the friendly owner of the rental lives in the home adjacent to the treehouse. For those seeking total seclusion, this may be important to consider. That said, we had complete privacy throughout our stay, and it was actually reassuring to know someone was nearby in case we needed anything while being away from home. The setup strikes a great balance between peaceful solitude and a sense of security—a rare combo that made the whole experience even more relaxing.
